Meet Laura Sumpter

Child and Family therapist, professional Counselor Associate, MS, M Ed, NCC

Owner & Founder

I understand that what you are going through with your child matters.  As an educator, counselor, and leader for over 30 years, I recognize that kids don’t come with a map or clear directions, and sometimes we need to know someone understands.  The way children are wired, the stories they have lived, and their strengths and concerns can be overwhelming.  Sometimes we need someone else who can speak truth into their lives with grace and care.  We want them to grow, heal, and thrive, but we aren’t sure how.

Much of my career has been centered in the private and public school systems.  I have had the privilege of being a classroom teacher at the K-12 level, a school leader, a support specialist, and a school counselor. I have worked with youth and families as they have navigated tragic and devastating circumstances.

In addition, I have had the opportunity to work as an educational trainer and work with children in various community settings.  I hold an M.ED in education and an MS in school counseling. I have had extensive training and experience in anxiety, behavior, anger management, attachment concerns, trauma and crisis, neuroscience, and working with the interpersonal struggles youth experience.  I am trained in Child-Centered Play Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy(TF-CBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. I hold a certificate in Child-Centered Play Therapy and am a Nationally Certified Counselor. Currently, I am a Professional Counselor Associate with the state of Oregon and am supervised by Crystal D. Hatton, MA, LPC, NCC, ACS (Oregon License #C6821).

In helping children and adolescents, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Understanding their needs, stories, and concerns allows me to tailor interventions that meet the concerns of my clients and those who support them.  I have seen that this is the unique and beautiful work that brings hope, help, and healing to children and families.

When I am not working with children, you can find me in my backyard homestead, gardening, planting flowers, and tending to a myriad of animals. I enjoy a good book and outdoor adventures with my family.

It would be my honor to meet and serve you!!

Therapist and Educator

“I have spent the past 30 years working with kids and families in the school system as a teacher and counselor. I wanted to create a comfortable, calming, and inviting space for children and families to be able to fully work through big feelings and difficult situations.”
